Here's another photograph from the Art Gallery of Ontario this past Sunday, Jan. 5. I'm a member and was eating in the Members' Lounge. I had taken my camera along and because I enjoy looking at different angles, I looked up and took this.

Spiral Staircase at the Gallery
I was at the Art Gallery of Ontario yesterday. The new buildings were designed by the architect Frank Gehry. One very beautiful part of the new design is a spiral staircase. I took this photo while walking down from the fourth floor. I like the image because it's one of those that makes you wonder… Continue reading Spiral Staircase at the Gallery
Interiors–Screen and Shadows
Here's another photograph--one I took a few days ago. I loved the light through the screen, casting shadows of the plant and curtain. You can see a sliver of the plant through the space between the screen panels.
Take Up The Night
I've begun writing poetry regularly during the last few years. Before that, most of my creative work was in the visual arts. Working with words at this point in my life is a great challenge, but one that I enjoy. Because I'm familiar with the language, so to speak, of printmaking or design or painting,… Continue reading Take Up The Night
Light and Lace
While I was travelling recently, I stayed in a house in the countryside. There, the owners had hung a lovely tiny antique dress on a wall. I don't know if it was a doll's dress or that of an infant. I first photographed the dress in full, but kept seeing it cut in half in… Continue reading Light and Lace
After Tragic News
This afternoon I learned that a friend's son in law had been murdered in a random act of violence. I never knew her son in law, but had heard about his death on the news in the morning without knowing their relationship. After hearing this sorrowful news, I was writing. On the wall opposite me the… Continue reading After Tragic News
Photograph–Bay de Verde, Newfoundland, 2
Here's another photograph I took in Bay de Verde on my travels in Newfoundland in August. I liked the simplicity and starkness of this particular view which I photographed for the strong shapes and the atmosphere of the village.
Photograph–Bay de Verde, Newfoundland
While in Newfoundland in August, my creative side was occupied with photography and writing. I took this photograph of a narrow street in Bay de Verde, a town in Conception Bay that haunted me.
Photos and a Painting
I was recently in the Grey Bruce area of Ontario on vacation. There I went to Earthbound Gardens where I had been before. Earthbound is one of several gardens you can tour on your own in the area. I took photos of an old door and windows that the gardeners have placed in the midst… Continue reading Photos and a Painting
Photographs of the University
Yesterday, I walked through parts of the University of Toronto. In the midst of the city are places like this one that feel like sanctuaries to me. I took these photos at the Munk School of Global Affairs. I found the corridors beautiful and was interested in the patterns the late afternoon light made--the interplay… Continue reading Photographs of the University
