I have made visual artworks since childhood. In adulthood I’ve also begun writing. I’ve worked in different media, including relief printmaking (linocuts and woodcuts), painting, fibre arts and drawing. On Arts of May, I show some of my past and present work and works by artists I love. And I talk about the process of making the works. This sometimes includes the solace of nature and beautiful places I’ve travelled to that support my life and work.
I’ve worked under the different names I’ve had during my life. My early prints and some early paintings are mostly under my birth name, Susan Barsel, or two versions of my former married name: Susan Herman and Susan Barsel-Herman. In the 1990s, I took the name Lily Susan May which is my name today. A Lily by any other name…..

Hello so glad I happened on your blog. Are you from Newfoundland? I saw you have a lot about the area. I am a visual artist in SK and am hoping to visit the area at the end of Oct for 2 weeks. I have been searching the internet trying to figure out how to contact St. John’s art guilds but haven’t had much success. Appears they don’t use web sites. I was hoping to offer a few full day workshops while out there. Any idea how I might find contact info for them? Thanks. I love your work too by the way!
Hi Nikki. I am not from Newfoundland and don’t know anything specific to suggest. My only thought is that perhaps you could go to a general Newfoundland Tourism site and ask. Good luck! And I’m very glad you like my work.
