This is a linocut I made in the 1970s under my previous married name, Susan Barsel-Herman, to express my love of autumn. I called the print The Healing Power of Autumn.

Print in Progress
I've included two photos in this post of the lino block that I carved in 2005 that led to the print I call Observer. I first painted an image on the block. However, the act of carving was often somewhat intuitive. I made decisions about the texture and changed the image as I went along instead of having a… Continue reading Print in Progress
At Peace Linocut
Last month I came upon a copy of a print of mine that I'd remembered over the years but thought was lost to me. The print was part of a very small edition and I had no copies left. I found it in my mother's apartment after her death. It was a lovely and timely surprise to… Continue reading At Peace Linocut
Linocut: Birth of Goddess, ii
Here's a variation on the theme of the birth of imaginary goddesses. This is another linocut that I made in 1974, again under my former married name.
Finding the Mask of the Goddess Linocut
Here's another linocut I made in the 1970s. Again, the theme has to do with an imaginary goddess. This time she doesn't appear, but one of her masks does.
Birth of the Goddess Linocut

Birth Linocut
This is a linocut I made in 1983 that was printed in a women's health journal. The article was on midwifery. I hand carved and handprinted the image. I've put the linocut up for sale in my etsy shop.
Clouds Linocut
Here's another linocut I made when I was just starting out. It arose from my love of seeing images in clouds.
Early Linocut–Monk Bird
As I meander through the art work I've done, I wanted to show you this linocut I made when I was just learning printmaking. I called this print "Monk Bird" because I thought the bird looked like a monk of sorts. The photo here is of a proof I made, meaning it's not one of… Continue reading Early Linocut–Monk Bird
Raining Cats and Dogs
Our cold weather gave way to warmer temperatures earlier this week. And then yesterday and early today, came a big rain. So in keeping with the weather, here's a linocut I made many years ago. It's a small print called Raining Cats and Dogs, made under my birth name, Susan Barsel, ©1984.
