Let’s Face It

I’ve entered three new stamped monoprints in an open group show at Gerrard Art Space in Toronto. I’ve shown my work at several of GAS’ print shows and have always enjoyed the variety of work on display.

These prints continued the same theme as the print that was accepted in the juried show, Print 2023. I described the process of making that and other prints in Stamped Mono-prints. This time the images became more surprising to me, something I enjoyed seeing. The surprises arose partly because I worked on each print both right-side up and upside-down. Doing this allowed me to go beyond my feelings about each face and to develop the shapes and tones more freely. To set the tone, I scribbled with coloured pencils across the paper before beginning to print.

Here’s one of the monoprints in the series. I’ll post the other two soon.

If you’re in Toronto and want to see the show in person, it’s on from June 7 – 25. The reception is Saturday June 10 from 3 – 6 pm. I plan to be there from 3:30 on. Gerrard Art Space, GAS, is at 1475 Gerrard St. E.
